Renovated and expanded recently, Maputo International Airport, with a domestic and an international terminal, is the largest airport in Mozambique. It's located around 5km of Maputo city center. At Maputo Airport you'll find a few restaurants, bars, shops and lounges to make your journey a bit more comfortable. In case you wish to obtain information about flights, check this page for Maputo Airport arrivals and departures.
The weather in Maputo is never really cold. From September to April you can expect longer days, higher temperatures and occasional rains and thunderstorms (hey, it's a tropical climate). From May to September the days are shorter, usually sunny and mild temperatures are expected. Before travelling to Maputo we suggest checking the weather forecast for the upcoming 10 days as this will help you to plan your visit accordingly.
Shopping in Maputo
In general, shopping in Maputo is an informal activity as you'll find salespersons in every corner of the city. For some local handicraft, we would suggest a visit to FEIMA, the place to go if you wish to buy gifts or admire Mozambican art. FEIMA is located at Parque dos Continuadores. When it comes to shopping centers, there aren't many options in Maputo. In any case, Polana Shopping, Maputo Shopping, Interfranca and Marés Shopping. would be the best options.
Maputo Sightseeing and Beaches
There are some must-see sites in Maputo you shouldn't miss. The Natural History Museum, the beautiful Polana Church, Maputo Cathedral, the Iron House and Maputo Train Station are only some examples. When it comes to beaches, Maputo isn't the best place in Mozambique to explore (Costa do Sol would be the only option). In case you have some spare time, we suggest a day-trip to Inhaca Island or Macaneta. Bilene beach and Ponta do Ouro, both beautiful, are a bit more distant but well-worth the trip.
Cultural Venues in Maputo
The best way to learn what's going on in Maputo is to ask directly to our staff locally. With that being said, we always recommend a visit to CCFM (Centro Cultural Franco Moçambicano), located near Maputo Cathedral, with regular exhibitions, shows and cinema displays. While in Maputo we also suggest attending to a local theater play - most certainly an unique experience to better understand Mozambican culture.
Maputo is blessed with several dining options. Apart from our hotel's restaurant where you can experience some of the finest Mozambican and Portuguese dishes, there are other restaurants worth trying. These include Zambi, Maresias, Manjar dos Deuses, Bel Piatto, Spicy Thai, Aska and Dhow Maputo, among others.
